The Consumer Protection, Competition, and Intellectual Property Law awareness program was held at UMFCCI, Yangon
Union Minister for Commerce and the Chairman of the Myanmar Competition Commission (MMCC), Mr. Tun Ohn, delivered a speech on October 7, 2023, at a Consumer Protection, Competition, and Intellectual Property law awareness program held at the office of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) in Yangon. In his address, he emphasized the importance for government departments and business operators to understand and effectively apply the Consumer Protection Law, Competition Law, and Intellectual Property Law being implemented by the Ministry of Commerce. The program was intended to help address challenges faced in compliance with these laws and to ensure their practical use.
The Minister also highlighted that the three laws—Consumer Protection Law, Competition Law, and Intellectual Property Law—serve as key pillars supporting the economic development of the nation, with various sectors working collectively to advance these objectives. To facilitate the implementation of these laws, relevant commissions and central committees have been established in accordance with the respective laws.
He noted that through programs like these, participants could gain a better understanding of compliance requirements, areas to avoid, and the benefits and protections provided by the laws.
Following his speech, the chairman of UMFCCI gave opening remarks, and experts and officials presented discussions aligned with the relevant laws. Afterward, representatives from government departments and business operators attending the program engaged in an open Q&A and discussion session.
