Study Visit of ASEAN Members States to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
SYDNEY, 6 May 2015 – A study visit to Australia by 24 competition experts from ASEAN countries concluded today in Sydney. The visit was hosted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and supported under the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA Competition Law Implementation Program (CLIP) of AANZFTA Economic Coopearation Support Programme (AECSP).
The visit provided an opportunity for officials from competition agencies from ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand to meet senior representatives from academia, law firms, business and consumer advocacy groups and the Federal Court in Australia and to discuss the experiences of Australia and New Zealand in the development, promotion and enforcement of competition policy and law. This includes discussions on organisational structure, strategic planning, case prioritisation, investigation processes, sanctions and remedies, human resource development, independence and the means to monitor and assess an agency’s performance. Illustrations from recent competition cases were presented.
