The Department of Internal Trade under Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Myanmar organized a Meeting on competition and consumer protection works on 11 March 2022 at Amari Hotel, Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province. The Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Xaythideth INTHASONE, Deputy Director-General of Department of Internal Trade (Supervisor of Competition Division), Mr. Sounthone CHANTHIRAT, Deputy Director-General of Department of Internal Trade (Supervisor of Consumer Protection Division) and Mr. Frank Tibitanzl, Project Director of GIZ-COMPETE.

During the meeting, the Chairman provided an overview of the current economic issues in the country, world’s politics, and the spreading of COVID 19 pandemic. The Meeting reviewed the implementation of the competition and consumer protection Project’s work plan supported by GIZ, and  discussed the activities planned for 2022. The Meeting re-evaluated the project activities in the past year and provided feedback on future activities.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman requested all participants to be proactive in the implementation of the project’s future activities. The Meeting was supported by GIZ-COMPETE Project under the German Government. A total of 17 participants attended the Meeting from the Competition Division, Consumer Protection Division, other related Divisions, and GIZ Project.
