Discussion Workshop on Draft Decree on Fine Measures
The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) organized the Discussion Workshop on Fine Measures for Provincial Departments of Industry and Commerce, Vientiane Capital, District Offices of Industry and Commerce, and related sectors on 26 September 2023 at Hoongthip Hotel, Nakhon Kaysone Municipality, Savannakhet province. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Xaythideth INTHASONE, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade. The workshop comprises relevant representatives such as the Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce, Vientiane Capital, Xaysomboun Province, Bolikhamxay Province, Vientiane Province, Khammouan Province, Savannakhet Province, District Offices of Industry and Commerce in Savannakhet Province, the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Justice, the Department of Internal Trade (MOIC), the provincial Government Office, Custom sector, Tax sector, Agriculture and Forestry sector, Public Health sector, Post, Science, Technology sector, People’s Prosecutor’s Office in Savannakhet Province, Justice sector, Public Security Sector, Planning and Cooperation sector, Information, Culture and Tourism sector, representatives from the GIZ-COMPETE project, officers of the Department of Internal Trade. The workshop has a total of 100 participants. ?The objectives of this workshop were to disseminate the law and regulations on competition, which includes the following topics: (1) the Concept on competition; (2) the Law on Competition; (3) the Ministerial Decision on the organization and activities of the Secretariat of the Lao Competition Commission (SLCC); (4) the Ministerial Decision on Competition Inspectors. The workshop briefly reported on the planning for establishing the draft Decree on Fine Measures. Then, the draft decree was presented at the workshop and the participants actively contributed useful comments so that the decree has more complete content. ?After lectures on various topics related to competition and the participants commenting on the draft decree, participants can understand important content and technical knowledge. The workshop is useful for local government officers to enhance competition knowledge to promote competition under laws and regulations. The Secretariat of the LCC will bring comments to improve the draft Decree. It is highly expected that the draft Decree will be completed according to the defined plan. After the government approves this decree, it will be an important tool for the implementation in accordance with the role and the decree will contribute to competition work efficiently and effectively.
