The Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam (CCBD) recently organised a comprehensive training session on the Competition Act, aimed at enhancing the understanding and enforcement of competition law in Brunei Darussalam. The training session was delivered by two senior officials from the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS), Ms Winnie Ching, Group Director for Law and Enforcement, and Ms Serene Seet, Director for Enforcement, who shared their expertise and insights on competition law enforcement and best practices from their experience in Singapore.

The session was attended by the Chairman and Members of the CCBD, along with officials from the Executive Secretariat, as well as representatives from the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

In addressing the participants, the Chairman of the CCBD, Yang Arif Haji Abdullah Soefri bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, expressed his profound gratitude to the CCCS and highlighted the strong relationship between the two organisations. The Chairman also emphasized the significance of cooperation and capacity building in enhancing expertise and improving the effective implementation of the Competition Act in Brunei Darussalam.

This training session underscores the CCBD’s ongoing efforts to develop the capacity of its enforcement officers and stakeholders, ensuring that competition 2 law is effectively applied to promote transparency, fairness, and consumer welfare in the landscape of Brunei Darussalam’s economy.

The Competition Act was introduced in 2015 to promote fair competition and prevent anti-competitive practices in the market. It aims to ensure that businesses operate on a level playing field, fostering innovation and benefiting consumers through competitive pricing and improved quality of goods and services.
